Our first day we drove to Vancouver, Washington to stay at the Heathman Lodge which is one of our favorites and happens to be an area where my parents were Mission Presidents. My sister Jaimee and her two kids flew in from Boston. It was great... we had the whole family there except for Scott (my
sister Jaimee's husband) who was in Boston working hard at Boston Mass General.
My parents rented a beach house at Rockaway Beach along the coast. It was beautiful! While there, we went to Tillamook Cheese factory, Cannon Beach, The Tillamook Air Museum, The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum (which is where Howard Hughes's "Spruce Goose" is housed), and Astoria to see where Goonies was filmed. Yes that's right, my siblings and I are a little bit obsessed I guess you could say with the movie Goonies.
We also celebrated my little sister Lindsay's 30th birthday. Poor Lindsay gets stuck celebrating a lot of her birthdays on family vacation. Probably the most memorable for me was her 21st birthday we happened to be taking a church history tour and for her birthday we took a River Boat Cruise. She's a trooper and I love her with all my heart!
On our way home, we got stuck in The Dalles in Washington in their "Neon Cruise-In". We ended up being in their car show for probably 30 minutes before we could escape. We got some of the strangest looks from people trying to figure out why two SUV's from Utah were in their parade, and better yet why they weren't riding low, pimped out, or blasting Butt Rock. The commentary from the crowd was pretty hilarious.
All in all, it was a pretty great trip, and I have to say I am
pretty lucky to have one of the greatest families ever. Now if we could just make the next 6 years fly by so we can get Jaimee and Scott home from Boston, all would be well.
