What I've been up to these days and why I've been MIA

Life for me lately consists of looking like a smurf (I wear blue scrubs every day for school, usually with a long sleeved white shirt underneath to keep me warm), studying and practicing my nursing "skills". I recently hosted a study group before our Nursing Skills final. This final was SERIOUSLY stressful and important because if we didn't pass, we didn't continue on into the next semester and would be held back to repeat. Granted we were given 2 chances, but I was bound and determined to pass on the first attempt. For study group, we used cucumbers with a hole down the middle for the Male Genitalia, and hollowed out a papaya with a hole in it for the Female Genitalia to practice catheters. We also made a wound out of watermelon to practice our wound care technique/sterile field. I have to say it was pretty successful and fun at the same time. I am THOROUGHLY enjoying myself in school and gaining more and more confidence as time goes on. I really think I have found my niche in life and can't wait until I graduate, which will be DECEMBER 2010. I guess you could say I have grown up since my days at Utah State. Oh and I did pass on my first attempt and was THRILLED to say the least.

Me practicing inserting a catheter on a Male (cucumber)

We have been told in school that a good majority of the time when we do a catheter on a male patient that we will have to "talk them down"... this is me "talking down" my male patient (cucumber). Sorry that is so graphic Mom

Me "Committing" to the cucumber. When you insert a catheter, you have to "Commit" with one hand and keep the other sterile

Me and Stef on our last day of clinicals. Oh how I love this girl... she is my BBBF (A little inside joke there)

Aman, Me and Stef on our last day of clinicals celebrating at the local IHOP

My clinical group: Me, Aman, Heather, Lisa, Ana, Mike, Wendy, Tammy, Stef, Skye and Tera. I really lucked out to have such a great group. I loved every minute of my first semester of clinicals

Hey Heid, you might want to be a little less graphic with those vegetables. I think that you are awesome though and am so proud you passed your clinicals!
